Instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization, often shortened to IASTM, uses smooth-edged tools during soft tissue work. Dr. Hamilton may select it after discussing your goals and examining the area involved.
What the visit may involve
The technique may be combined with active movement, mobility work or chiropractic care. Pressure and duration are adapted to the person; IASTM is not automatically included in every appointment.
The tools
Dr. Hamilton uses smooth-edged, stainless steel instruments designed to glide over the skin during soft tissue work. IASTM is a treatment approach, not a diagnostic tool, and is used alongside a standard clinical examination.
Before treatment
Share relevant health history, skin concerns, medications and recent injuries so Dr. Hamilton can decide whether this option is suitable. Temporary redness, mild bruising or tenderness can occur, and the approach is not used over open wounds, active infection or areas on blood-thinning medication without discussion.
